Builder Spotlight: Resit Gecgil

Meet Resit Gecgil, Master Builder

So you want to build a home…a nice one, you say. But you’re in a quandary about selecting the right builder. After all there are more than 1,000 in the DMV each proclaiming mastery, exclusivity and lots of other glowing can-dos buyers love to hear. And then there’s Resit who proclaims none of it. He doesn’t have to once shoppers see his magic. The magic can be found in a stunning Georgetown condo, a custom-build in Chevy Chase or an urban DC row house.

His approach is practicality, hands-on and a dash of classic architecture garnered from his homeland Turkey. The 48-year old general manager of R.builders, Resit has had his share of engineering challenges as he tackles tough codes and hard-line permits relating to preservation neighborhoods where his skills and knowledge are sought and needed. From the challenges of razing a century-old structure to building in a dense urban environment, Resit finds a way to work his magic.

He brings a lot to the table…much of it from his Istanbul – a cultural mecca of sorts – where he learned the essentials of quality construction. His father and uncle, both of whom were in construction, drilled in him this primary principle: “Take no shortcuts.” “I always like to go to a property and envision what can be done. I don’t rush. It’s important to study the integrity of the property and the details,” says Resit. Resit says a key to successful building is to know who you’re working with…know their skills. “Some builders just have a blueprint and bring six or seven subcontractors and they’re ready to build. I can’t just go out and find a subcontractor…that’s not the way to construct. I know the strengths of my crew extremely well.”

Resit is involved in every intricate step of Rdotbuilder’s projects. A panacea of sorts, he’s comfortable in that role having encompassed all areas of design and construction. Accustomed to the many architectural wonders of Istanbul’s historical mosques, churches and castle Resit leans towards classical styles. He says he can accommodate any customer’s preference but behind every project he undertakes is the lingering objective: “This home should look good 100 years from now.”
